So Yummy

So Yummy

By Peter Kaufman:

Just because a dog or cat loves to eats a particular food doesn’t mean they should eat it. Dog’s especially are notorious for eating almost anything i.e furniture, shoes and even their own poo.

Why then do we use our pet’s reaction (positive or negative) to a particular food or treat as the barometer of whether or not we feed it?  Of course food and treats have to be palatable but should we compromise (or give in to guilt) and allow junky ingredients or empty calories to over ride good nutrition? How often do you read ingredient statements before you feed yourself or feed your pet?

How much sugar and salt are disguised in your pet’s food and treats (even if they are 100% natural like honey, maple syrup, molasses and peanut butter) that increase the ‘yummy’ factor but do nothing more than add on empty calories?

Should anyone be surprised that we and are our pets are facing an obesity epidemic and will have to deal with all of the emotional and financial costs involved.

‘So yummy’ does not always mean ‘so healthy’.  Therefore it’s our responsibility to educate ourselves to know the difference.

Stay tuned – this is a topic I am very passionate about.
